is it ok to rename the .tsk file? do I have to do anything in RoboTask or can I just rename it when RoboTask is closed?
currently mine have human unreadable names.

No, you can not.
The task file name must correspond to task ID in RoboTask task repository.
You can export the task and save it with any file name as you wish. Next you can import the task to RoboTask. But RoboTask assigns formal file name to task file in repository
