Robotask as a Service questions

Post by TimeTraveller »

I set up a task in "Robotask Desktop"  After reading this forum, I
figured out how to run it as a service.  Well it's running as a service
and I set it up to run with local workstation administrators
credentials to run in background so as not to be visible with logged on
user.

However task didn't run. I opened up the task, and it says the first
day it is supposed to run is today, even tho I'm sure it said the same
thing yesterday ..ie it should have run yesterday..

2 questions:

Does Robotask have to run under system account credentials and not local administrator account credentials ?
Will
a task set up with Robotask Desktop edition  be executed by the
Robotask service or do I have to take some further action.

Thanks

Yes, in service mode RoboTask working under system account. But you can change settings in service manager. When RoboTask Service is started you can see green RoboTask icon in tray. (Robatask desktop has blue icon)

Yes. But I recommend you to avoid of interactive actions (such as Question Dialog or show message) in service mode, because you can get some troubles.
By default "interact with desktop" option for RoboTask service is turned on and you can control RoboTask from console. But if you turned off this option you can't press the buttons in dialogs.

One more detail: In service mode RoboTask has another default folder for tasks.
In desktop mode the default folder is placed in your local profile, but in NT-service mode, default folder is <RoboTask Folder>\tasks.
You can see (and change) it in RoboTask settings (Menu | Optons | Settings)

Therefore if you want use tasks configured in RoboTask-desktop, you must import these into RoboTask service.

System menu Start | Programs | RoboTask | NT Service | Install service

Also there are shortcuts:
Start Service
Stop Service
Reinstall Service
Uninstall Service

Robotask have feature of locking task editor. Data protection prevents the following operations:
- editing of tasks
- editing of task tree
- editing of list of variables
- importing of new tasks.

See menu Tools | Protect data

What do you mean under "deployable format"?

Install ready for client terminals.
You should install RoboTask onto another computer too. You can transfer prepared tasks by using export/import options. (menu Task | Export; Task | Import)
Tools/Protecting data in the registered version only?
Within trial period too. During evaluation RoboTask fully functional.
