Is there a way I can create several tasks that have preset values for different screen resolutions.

I have a laptop and would like to run a task that can change the screen resolution and color depth when I plug it into an external monitor.

This task doesn't need to happen automatically although that would be very very nice but just a short-cut key that I can press to change the display settings of the computer.
