I find myself doing this often when I'm trying to implement new steps to a process I've done for a different task and they are split up across the task making sometimes hard to find my place on the task to add the steps and having to go back and forth as mentioned. An example of what I'm talking about is maybe something similar to what Visual Basic does where they have tabs at the top of the window and you can quickly switch between them and then also being allowed to put them side-by-side to compare code.
