Inactive toolbar buttons look ugly

This may just be my computer and operating system.
I am running Windows XP Professional with the default Lunar theme.

When some of the toolbar buttons are unavailable they become big dark grey boxes.

It would be better if they just lost their color and border rather then becoming a dark grey square, as it is not possible to tell what action is behind each dark grey box which doesn't help the usability of the product.
